Individual Counselling

I offer individual counselling to adults who are looking for support with understanding and processing difficult thoughts, feelings or experiences. I also work with people who simply want a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space to explore their 'being' in the world, and how they might possibly 'be' differently.

My approach is to create a therapeutic space for and with you that facilitates greater self-awareness, self-understanding and self-compassion. Insight and empathy towards our own inner world can bring clarity and purpose to how we engage with ourselves, others and the choices and decisions we make.

I welcome people of diverse identities, including diverse gender, sexuality and relationship identities.

I offer counselling in person, from my home in north Stevenage, and online.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of counselling do you offer?

I offer individual counselling to adults. My practice is person-centred, which means that the space I offer is yours, to be led by you and what you need. I will do my best to offer you empathy – understanding how you see the world and what your experiences have meant to you, to not judge you, and to be reliable and trustworthy in facilitating your healing, growth and development. I hope that together we will be able to create a space in which you feel able and willing to explore any aspect of yourself and your experiences.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

Counselling can be helpful for anyone struggling with emotional and/or psychological challenges, or those seeking support with personal growth or life transitions. If you're unsure, I encourage you to reach out with any questions.

I offer a free initial 30 minute conversation, which can be online or by telephone, so that we can discuss what you are looking for, how I work, and to see how we both feel about the prospect of working together.

What can I expect in my first session?

In your first session, we will discuss your needs, how you might best use the sessions and your objectives for the work. You will have an opportunity to ask me any further questions you might have about how I work and what to expect. We will set out the paremeters for the work, including frequency of sessions, reviews, confidentiality and how you and the process are safeguarded. It is an opportunity to get to know each other, what the work will look like, and to start building rapport.

How much will I have to pay?

I charge £45 per session.

Some lower-cost slots are available for student therapists and others on a lower income.

How long does each session last?

My sessions usually last between 50 minutes and one hour.

They are usually held weekly, for as long as you need, although this can be reviewed, and less frequent sessions agreed as needed.

About me

I am a person-centred counsellor based in Stevenage. I  understand that each person's journey is unique, and I strive to create a welcoming environment for all. My approach is grounded in empathy, respect, and inclusivity, ensuring that you feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and any aspect of your identity. I aim to support and facilitate your growth and your healing, working with you to develop your self-awareness, self-compassion and your ability to face life's challenges and thrive anyway.

I have particular interests and experience in working with trauma and loss and grief, having worked for a number of years in both a bereavement charity and a charity that supported survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and violence. I believe that loss, together with trauma, sit behind many of the challenges we experience in life

My counselling is anti-oppressive in that I seek to not pathologise you or any aspect of you but to understand and value the experiences that have created you. This can include an exploration of how the way power is structured in our society, including arrangements of domination such as racism, patriarchy, heteronormativity and ableism, can cause or compound individual trauma and distress. I believe that greater insight into how the political and the social play out in our individual lives can create significant relief and open up the possibility for transformational growth.
